Xs4all.nl has been a part of IRC since the early ninties, when Cor Bosnan administrated irc.xs4all.nl. During the great split of 1996, xs4all joined most of the european servers in their creation of IRCnet. IRCnet remained xs4alls primary uplink until 2003, when Johan Boger (Silence) was looking for a place to put a european efnet server. Through their cooperation on various IRCnet servers, Silence knew one of the current irc.xs4all.nl admins, Mick Switser (mofo). Being a systemadministrator at XS4all Internet, BV, Mick had the opportunity to host an ircd. The new cooperation was an instant success, and in march of 2003 efnet.xs4all.nl was linked to EFnet, reconnecting xs4all.nl to the EFnet community. Since then a dedicated IPv6 server has been linked under the name efnet.ipv6.xs4all.nl. Additionally to the two administrators, the EFnet xs4all team includes kore, acid, phosphor and ubiyca, together sharing the responsibility of the two ircds. The alltime greatest userpeak was set in 2003, when efnet.xs4all.nl reached an impressing 15,500 users. Since then the usercount has stablised at around 8-10,000 users.
